Ductility is the property of a material to deform plastically before it breaks.

Ductility plays a role not only in the selection of the appropriate material for an application, but also in machining. In machining, such as turning or milling, the ductility of the material influences the choice of machining tools and the setting of cutting parameters. Ductile materials tend to deform or harden at the machining point if the cutting speed is too high or the temperature is too high during machining.

Based on ductility, materials can be divided into different groups of deformability. Brittle materials, Ductile materials and Superplastic materials.
